Sarah is a 9-year-old girl who lives with both her biological parents and four siblings in Kisoko Village in Mukono District. Both parents are subsistence farmers, which provides them with food but leaves them with minimal financial resources to meet the growing needs of their children.Sarah’s father is a habitual alcohol abuser and this affects the household’s income. Sarah’s mother has oftenfaced domestic violence from their father and this affects the children emotionally. Given the high substanceuse in this home, Sarah’s chances of accessing formal education are extremely limited as the mother oftenstruggles to make ends meet.Sarah is meek, well-disciplined and highly motivated. She enjoys playing, particularly jumping ropes, and interacts well with others. Her eagerness to learn indicates that she would greatly benefit from academic opportunities if given the chance.
