Parvin is ten years old and lives with her grandmother in the slums of Jinja. Her father abandoned her at an early age, and it was her grandmother who raised her. Parvin’s mother brews local brew and is never sober. Parvin’s grandmother is getting older and more prone to illness. Parvin takes on the burden of looking for odd jobs so that she can earn some money to care for the grandmother. Despite the grandmother’s health conditions, she takes on some odd jobs to support the children under her care. Her contribution is always a drop in the ocean and therefore insufficient to cater for all of the children under her care. Parvin dreams of becoming a great teacher, however with an ailing grandmother and no strong support system her dream is more likely to be shattered.
