Gardia is a pupil in Primary Two who lives with her parents and five siblings. Both of her parents work as casual laborers on a farm, where the family is allowed to stay in a small two-room mud house provided by their employer. However, their housing remains uncertain, as they fear eviction if they are no longer able to work on the farm.
The family survives mainly on food handouts and small amounts of money earned from casual labor. Due to ongoing financial hardship, Gardia’s parents have been unable to afford school fees for her and her siblings, causing Gardia to miss an entire year of school despite her strong desire to learn. Gardia dreams of becoming a nurse so she can help care for the sick. Sponsorship would give her the opportunity to return to school, gain stability, and begin working toward a brighter future.
